PRINT MEDIA

BBN (Bayon Business News) is the first Cambodian national bi-lingual newspaper published in response to the lack of credible, impartial newspaper in the Cambodian community along the Eastern Coast of the United States.

The first issue was published in April 1999 to cover the news that happen in Cambodia, around the World and in the US that might be of interest to Cambodian Americans in the United States in addition, to businesses news.

Siphann Touch, CALL's Media Director

Though, BBN first published to meet the needs of Cambodian Americans in Massachusetts, it quickly gains national recognition throughout the Cambodian communities in the US. Cambodian readers in other part of the country want to know what is happening in the Massachusetts Cambodian community and readers in Massachusetts and along the East Coast want to find out about Cambodian Americans in the West Coast as well.

To bridge this gap of news, BBN expands its coverage in March 2001 to include news from both coats by changing it format from tabloid size to broadsheet format with two sections. First section devotes to Cambodian communities in the East Coast and the second section is for Cambodian Community in the West Coast.

Our circulation rose from 10,000 copies in April 1999 to 20,000 copies in March 2001. Our readership has also increased to about 100,000 nationwide.

LOCAL ACCESS TV PROGRAM

In addition, the Cambodian American League of Lowell, Inc., produces a weekly cable television news program, Cambodian Cable News (CCN), shown in Massachusetts and Rhodes Island. For Massachusetts, CCN is shown in Lowell, Chelmsford, Amherst, Fall River, Revere and Lynn with an estimated viewership of 50,000 Cambodians. In Rhodes Island, the program airs in North Provident, East Greenwich, Coventry, and West Warwick.
